On Sunday, 16 September, Pistoia’s Piazza della Sala will be transformed into a garden for one day
Once a year, “Another Park in the City” transforms two of Pistoia’s central squares (Piazza della Sala and Piazzetta dell'Ortaggio) into a “fantastic” meadow, with an “impossible” garden of trees and real grass in the heart of the historical center. First held in 2012, it was conceived by the UAS architectural firm in collaboration with Confcommercio for the Provinces of Pistoia and Prato, the City of Pistoia Tourist Consortium, Comparto La Sala, the Pistoia Chamber of Commerce, and Giorgio Tesi Group as green partner. It comes from a wish to give Pistoia’s inhabitants as well as foreign and Italian tourists a unique experience with the installation of a 1700 square-meter garden whose grass and plants cover the two squares that symbolize “la vita Pistoiese”.
The green installation will include a freestanding pylon in Piazza della Sala for the new initiative “The Garden of the Mind”, part of the Giorgio Tesi project “eARTh - Growing Creativity” formed by a union of land, art, and creativity – always of great importance to our company. The aim is to provide a grand stage for exclusive works of art that will serve a very important role worldwide as ambassadors of a new environmental awareness, working to “cultivate creativity” in all the spaces that surround us daily and consequently also in the city.
The “Garden of the Mind” was created in collaboration with the Pistoiese artist Michele Fabbricatore who worked at creating a place where nature is combined with art, sculpture emphasizes the beauty of plants, and architecture and design enrich the green landscape. To bring it to fruition, the artist imagined our mind, which is of great importance as it expresses our values. In addition, like a fine plant, the mind must be nurtured and cultivated to remain so. The first three works have been placed in the nursery at the company’s Pistoia headquarters.
At 10 am on Sunday, 16 September, this new project as well as NATURART’s thirtieth issue will be officially introduced during “Another Park in the City". For eight years, NATURART, which has told the world of the outstanding merits of Pistoia and its district, will be media partner for the initiative with “TOPSCAPE PAYSAGE”, the magazine dedicated to landscape architecture. At the same time as the presentation, there will be a children’s workshop, NATURART KIDS, run by the Pantagruel Cooperative with whom we worked for the citywide event “Cosimo degli Alberi - Discovering the city with a green heart” this past May.
In case of rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, 23 September.
