Dynamo Camp: Giorgio Tesi group’s "Pinocchio" brand of ornamental plants to support first recreational therapy camp in Italy

The Pistoia nursery group adds a social context to the Pinocchio plant line, donating a percentage of sales to Dynamo Camp’s mission

February 23, 2013 - Dynamo Camp will be the recipient of a donation from the Giorgio Tesi Group, one of Europe’s leaders in nurseries for ornamental plant production, size, and acreage, which has resolved to donate to a social initiative.

The initiative relates to the sale of the Pinocchio ornamental plants, a brand that the nursery company is launching internationally, thanks to an agreement with the Collodi Foundation. The accompanying slogan "The future is green" conveys a message regarding the importance of ecology and green choices to families and children. These two symbols of Pistoia therefore decided to sponsor Dynamo Camp, located in the mountains near Pistoia, through an alliance that, through a promotional campaign, will introduce the beauty and importance of Pistoia’s plants to the world.

The Giorgio Tesi Group has committed to using a percentage of revenues from sales contracts of the Pinocchio brand plants in order to support Dynamo Camp’s mission and to encourage contractors, large northern Europe retail groups, and garden centers to do likewise.

The first recreational therapy camp in Italy, Dynamo Camp hosts free holiday and recreational periods for children with serious and chronic diseases, particularly oncohematological and neurological diseases, rare syndromes, spina bifida, and diabetes. In 2012, it accommodated 1,067 children. Dynamo Camp opened its doors in 2007 as a summer camp welcoming sixty children and, each year since, the number of children, diseases accepted, and programs has increased. Dynamo Camp now welcomes more than 1,000 children each year and includes healthy siblings and parents in special sessions as well. It offers programs each month throughout the year, through sessions held in summer, during the Easter and Christmas holiday breaks, and on weekends for families, as well as international sessions. The camp is located in Limestre, in the province of Pistoia, on a 900-hectare reserve affiliated with the WWF, known as the Dynamo Oasis. It is part of the SeriousFun Children’s Network of camps founded in 1988 by Paul Newman and active worldwide. Dynamo Camp is a project of the Dynamo Foundation; it is managed, with almost entirely private funding, by the non-profit Dynamo Camp Association.
